In Kindergarten We're on the Go!!!!

The last several weeks we've been working on a transportation unit, which the children have just LOVED! Here are some of our transportation projects in action.

What floats your boat??

Hoorah!! They really do float.

Is it a bird or a plane?

It's a plane!

At the airport waiting for the planes to take off.

The friendly skies :)

Or is this a strike?

A budding pilot!

Two planes are better than one

So are two friends!

Testing our twirlybirds

On your mark,

Get set, Go!

Can you believe the Queen let us stand on our chairs!!??!!

Woooo Hoooo!!

This is awesome!

We twirled them until we wore them out

Up, up and away

Work on Writing

At Reader's Workshop we have a station called Work on Writing. We encourage the children to create their own writing topics and messages. They just love the freedom and creativity it encourages!!

We are totally into writing letters to each other!! This one says, "Dear Class, I love you very much. All of you are invited to my birthday party." Isn't that just the sweetest thing??

And on our dry erase board called, "Little Daddy" here's a message that says, "Dear Class, I love you. Queen Hicks you are my guest. Love, Queen Hicks." The caption of me going down the slide says, Wheeeee!" Don't you just love the creative spelling especially when they don't know how to write that word yet?? Finally the bottom says, "Guess who I am?" Adorable!!

Writing Wizards

We've been working so hard on "How to" writing, but have managed to get some fun in too. We've made so many food items and written how to make them that I told the class we should put them all together in a cookbook!

Testing out our steps on "How to Eat Cereal"

Umm, umm, good!

There wasn't a drop of milk left! And the writing we did following this was remarkable.

One student is chosen each day to be the Writing Wizard. They have to have shown stamina and concentration in their writing as well as skills like spacing, tapping, sight words and ability to reread their writing. Doesn't this make all that writing fun??

What was your favorite song??

It's Jack Hartmann!!

Queen Griffin gets to perform with Jack!

We did a lot of moving and grooving!

Humpty Dumpty is on the Nursery Rhyme CD he gave us

Doing the alligator chomp!!

Chomp, chomp, chomp!!

Mad Scientists at Work

Drawing and writing about outdoor sounds in our science journals

Checking out what sounds are in the plastic eggs

Was it rice or beans?

Testing out vibration with our kazoos

Using tuning forks, banjo boxes and slinky phones to explore vibration a little more

Sound and vibration have been our latest science topics. Here we are working and exploring with those materials.

You're a Grand "Ol Flag

In the month of February we celebrated our American heritage by talking about America, the Presidents and patriotism. We put on our red, white and blue tricorns, played our rhythm sticks and marched to the songs, "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "You're a Grand "Ol Flag.
