Aunt Amanda Comes to Read
It must be because we're bookworms, but people seem to love to come and read to our class. Our latest visitor is Jack's Aunt Amanda, who read us the funny, funny story, Olivia.
Aunt Amanda also happens to be a first grade teacher in North Carolina. She thinks we act just like her class of first graders. Whoo Hoo!

Down on the Farm
We had a fabulous time and there was so much to see and do:
the corn maze, the hayride, the farm animals, the corn box, the corn popper, the pumpkins and sunflowers were all awesome! According to our class this was the best field trip ever. (Hee! Hee!)

It is Time for Reader's Workshop!
Reader's Workhop is the time during the day where the children work individually and in small groups on reading skills. As of this week they have 4 stations they have to complete within 2 days. Those stations are Art Work, Word Work, ABC Work and Listen to Reading. At each station they have several choices of how and what they want to work on for those skills. These choices are a great way to meet their different learning abilities and preferences. I love to see how they take ownership of their learning. Check out the work we are doing so far.
Kristian is reading an Alphabet big book, one of our choices at ABC Work.
Macy is retelling the story, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, with magnetic letters. Retelling stories with props is another ABC Work choice.
Trenton is doing a fabulous job rereading Mary Wore Her Red Dress at ABC Work.
Dorien is making the mouse from our story, Mouse Mess, at Art Work . Doesn't it look great?
What will David's mouse decide to eat? Will it be cheese, crackers, cookies, pickles? Mouse likes all of these!
Khalil and Briell are matching pictures to color words and reading them at the pocket chart choice from Word Work.
Ashlyn is writing words from the Word Wall on a dry erase board at Word Work.

Science with Mr. Felix
Today we welcomed Mr. Felix, an FSCJ student and former Extended Day worker to our room to teach us a little bit about air. He read a great story about air and wind and then demonstrated and allowed us to experiment with how air makes things move. Fabulous lesson, Mr. Felix! And a big thanks for providing us with our own balloons to take home to experiment with as well.

Listen to Reading
One of our station choices at Reader's Workshop is Listen to Reading.
When you ask a kindergartener why it's important to listen to books here are some answers you may get:
* to be a better reader * to listen to the teacher * to get smarter * to know the story * to know the words and story * so you don't get behind other kids * and best of all because it's FUN!
Now to find a good spot to read! We like to call it our bubblespace.
So, where do we like to read in our room?
Trenton likes to read in a tub!
Rithika likes to read on a rug!
Daniel likes to read on a bench!
Khalil likes to read under a table!
Briell and Grayson like to read side by side!
Ashlyn is in a tub too!

Reading is doggone good!
Thanks to our former kindergarten (now first grade!) student, Bella, who came to class today and read the hilarious book, Bark George! We giggled and laughed all the way through. Fantastic job and great book, Bella!
