Our Families Rock at Family Night!

The Royal Subjects mingle and eat pizza.

Friends are fun to be with anytime, but especially when you are 5! Jaidyn, Irving, Lance, Skylar and Cameron abandon their parents for together time.

Vanshika -- our sweetheart!

Here's why Vanshika is so sweet! Check out her family.

Skylar's family, minus hardworking dad, but with super cool grandma!

Kalvin and his fun loving family!

Cameron is lucky to have such sweet women in his life!

Irving has one happy family!

Aliana and her entourage!

Lance and the gang!

Hugs for Jordan and family!

Andrew's family is looking good!

Brian and his dad chill out at Family Night!

Jaidyn gets good lovin' from grandma.

Five Little Monkeys? Maybe in the song, but 11 little monkeys performing it. :)

Our families are groovin' as they help us Tooty Ta!

Family Night was awesome!!! Thanks to a group of wonderful parents who helped provide pizza and food, lots of good-natured, legendary entertainment (long live the Tooty Ta!) and a TON of interest in their children and their education. No wonder the Queen and the Royal Subjects are so happy every day!
Hope to see YOU at the next Family Night!!!!!

Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

We had an wonderful trip to the zoo last Friday. Even though the weather was a little warm, the animals and Royal Subjects were well-behaved! Naturally we stood out in our glittery, golden and sparkley royal t-shirts, so we had to look and act spiffy.
In the morning we took a leisurely stroll to see the elephants, giraffes, jaguars and gorillas. But after lunch, we headed off to zoo school to use our 5 senses with the smaller creatures. We got to see and touch a chinchilla, snake, rabbit, turtle and hedgehog. (The hedgehog was adorable, but too prickley to touch.)
Thanks to our tireless chaperones who helped make the trip a success for all -- Jaidyn's dad, Mr. Johnnie; Janari's dad, Mr. Said; Ms. Kym, Andrew's mom; Ms. Angela, Lance's mom; Ms. Nickie, Skylar's mom and Ms. Amelia, Jamal's mom! We wouldn't have had such a blast without you!
Sporting our royal t-shirts and great smiles!

Janya checks out the giraffe and his loooooonnnnngggg tongue!

Janari is totally intent on learning about hedgehogs.

Jamal, Jordan, Jhi'Davien and Brian check out the snake.
No fear here!

Our zoo teacher, Ms. Vicki, assures Andrew that everything is cool about snakes.

Lance and Jaidyn take their turns checking out our slithery friend.

Jhi'Davien can't believe how soft a rabbit can be, but not as soft as the chinchilla!

Read to Self

The last two weeks we have begun some of our most important work in kindergarten -- Read to Self.

How does a five year old read to themselves?
Well, they can read the pictures, read the words or retell a familiar story!
Why does a kindergarten student want to read a book independently?
To get smarter, to build strong brain muscles, to learn more and of course, because it's AWESOME, EXCELLENT FUN!

How does it look and sound when they read to themselves?
They get started right away. (People who goof off are not getting smarter.)
They stay in their own bubblespace. (a place where no one will bother them)
They work on their stamina. (reading for longer and longer periods of time)
They read quietly.
They keep their eyes on their book.
They read the whole time.

Who likes to read in our class independently?
The bookworms! Check out our "nose-stuck-in-the book" readers below:
